Tension mounted in Joseph Nagar for some time when a group of Hindu Yuva Sene activists laid siege to Government Higher Primary School there and protested a missionary distributing a book on Jesus Christ for school children.

It is an organised attempt to lure children to convert them to Christianity, activists complained.

They withdrew their protest after the top officers like Assistant Commissioner Habibulla, Tahsildar Ganapathi Bhat assured to take action if the missionary would be found guilty and the missionary who allegedly distributed the books apologised.

Other decisions taken during a discussion with the officials were:

* Action should be initiated against headmistress for allowing the missionary to distribute the book though DDPI instructed to take prior permission of SDMC;

* District administration must withdraw the circular on book distribution;

* Book already distributed to the children should be seized and an inquiry should be ordered.

Sene activists had laid siege to the school for over three hours on Monday. It all started when they came to know that a missionary had distributed books to the children on Friday.

They urged headmistress to call the missionary to the school. When missionary came they put her inside the staff room and subjected to ?inquiry? too.

Headmistress maintained that she allowed the missionary to distribute books as per circular issued by the DDPI S L Chavhan. At this stage activists demanded that DDPI should come to the spot.

Since DDPI was away on tour, BEO Hanumanthappa came to the spot. Police team, Assistant Commissioner and others too rushed to the spot. Issue was settled temporarily.
